I am a big foundation lover, I like trying out new products and finding out which ones work for me and which ones don’t. If I could describe my ‘ideal’ foundation it would be medium, buildable coverage, long wearing and with a flawless, glowing finish, some happy place between matte and dewy.
I definitely always lean towards the higher end foundations. I have found drugstore foundations I’ve tried in the past to be really disappointing in one way or another. Especially when it comes to shade variety. I also have dry skin so I find it difficult finding one that doesn’t cling to all my dry patches.
Until recently, I will definitely say that ‘Nars Sheer Glow’ was my solid favourite. I like the shade variety (I wore the shade Barcelona), coverage and the finish that it provides. The only thing that I struggled with was the longevity. I would constantly have to touch it up throughout the day as it would wear off. At £33 a bottle, it was quite a sore to my purse, especially as the bottle would run out so quickly due to me constantly having to re-apply the foundation throughout the day.
When I started Uni, money was getting pretty tight and so I was on the hunt for a new, more affordable foundation. However, I didn’t want to have to sacrifice the quality of my makeup. I decided to to give ‘Collection’s Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Foundation’ a go. I have seen really mixed reviews for it online and so I was unsure at first to try it. I LOVE their ‘Lasting Perfection Concealer’ and have been using it for years now. I decided to take the plunge after a friend (who’s makeup always looks amazing) recommended the foundation to me.
Now I have to say the shade range isn’t great, in fact they only have 4 shades available, all of which are very light. I decided to give the shade ‘Cool Beige #3’ a try, it has more yellow undertones which suits my skin tone better. I don’t rate the packaging, it’s not the most aesthetically pleasing HOWEVER it does come with a pump which gets a big thumbs up from me.
After the first application, I knew it was a goodie. It applies great with either a brush or a beauty blender but I tend to reach for my beauty blender more as it gives a fresher finish. The foundation ticks all of the boxes for me, it looks flawless, it has a medium coverage that is buildable, it lasts ALL day, it has the bonus of SPF 20 and at £5.99 it is a total bargain.
I like to use ‘Maybelline Baby Skin instant pore eraser’ as a primer to help the foundation apply smoothly, preventing it from sinking into any of my fine lines. After I have applied the foundation, I like to set it with ‘Mac studio fix powder’ in a darker shade to help make the foundation match my skin tone and last all day. Next I apply ‘Mac’s Mineralize Skinfinish Natural – Medium Tan’ to bronze my face. After I finished my makeup I like to set my face with ‘NYX Professional Makeup Setting Spray – Dewy Finish’ to help freshen up my face and prevent it from looking ‘cakey’.
It has taken me a long time to find a foundation that I finally can say I love, and trust me when I say I have tried a lot. I can definitely see myself using this foundation for a long time to come!
