January has finally come to a close! With the likes of stress, post-Christmas blues, exams and financial strain I think we can all agree that it isn’t an easy going 4 weeks (wait..January isn’t a year?) I hope all of your goals and plans for 2018 are well underway, I have actually managed to stick to mine for once!
There are few things which I have been using this past month which have made its duration much more bearable, que the January Favourites.
Whenever I buy a new lip product, the majority of the time I am left feeling disappointed. I will have swatched the colour in store and thought ‘Yes this is the one!’ only to find after purchasing the product and leaving the store the product looks a completely different colour in daylight. What I thought was a nude actually turned out to be a different colour altogether like a Barbie pink. I was beginning to get frustrated, what does a girl have to do just to find the perfect nude colour?! The answer is pretty simple, just ask! I walked into NYX and asked the makeup artist which of their many nude shades was the one for me and she picked out a shade from their Soft Matte Lip Cream collection in ‘London’. I didn’t like the shade all that much from my first swatch in store, it looked orange and I have always liked a pink/brown toned nude but I decided to put my trust in her and purchased the product and oh boy am I glad that I did. I love it! It is comfortable on the lips as it doesn’t dry them out, it lasts a good amount of time and I am so happy with the colour, it was just what I was looking for! It is really wearable for everyday as it is so versatile, it also really compliments my tan.
A recent purchase I have been LOVING is my velvet self tan mitt. I honestly can’t believe I haven’t used one of these sooner. If you are a fake tan user like myself, you have got to give one of these a try. It takes the chore out of applying your tan. Normally it would take ages for my tan to blend and soak into my skin and I would be left feeling all sticky and uncomfortable. This tanning mitt makes my tan glide onto my skin and it blends in beautifully. I have also found that I am using less product to get my desired shade and it dries significantly quicker too!
When I saw that Nars had released a new foundation I had to get my paws on it. The fact that its name includes the claims; all day, luminous and weightless made me very excited. Little to my surprise, I love this foundation. The coverage, the finish and of course the Nars shade range (I wear Barcelona) all tick my perfection box. However, the only thing that I will say about this foundation is that I have suffered the same issue with it that I faced with my beloved ‘Sheer Glow’ foundation, it does not last on my skin. I always find that after a few hours it does start to rub off around my upper lip and lower nose area, I don’t have oily skin either, my skin type is dry. If anyone has any suggestions in making this last longer let me know in the comments! Regardless of this mishap, the good overpowers the bad and this is truly a gorgeous foundation.
I, like many others, am a huge coffee addict. I can’t function in a morning without it. I guess you could also call me a coffee snob, I don’t really like the instant kind, I would so much rather nip to Starbucks and to get a caramel macchiato. However, being a student this cost can really add up. I actually like the coffee which you can make at home with a machine which can work out cheaper than going to a coffeehouse but this isn’t really an option for me whilst I am currently living in student halls. Luckily, I have found an alternative. First rule, don’t skimp on instant coffee. I had initially purchased a supermarkets own brand of instant coffee and it tasted horrible, this is a classic case of you get what you pay for. I then decided to buy Nescafe Azera Espresso coffee whilst it was on offer and it’s truly a game changer, as far as instant coffees go, it is nice. I then purchased Monin Carmel syrup 1 Litre off of amazon. I only make my coffees from milk/almond milk, they taste much better. After heating the milk up in the microwave, I had a splash of syrup and a teaspoon of the Azera and it actually makes a really tasty coffee, maybe not as good as Starbucks but it is a fraction of the price and it satisfies my coffee cravings. The syrup just makes it so much better.
Since I have started going to the gym much more frequently, I wanted to try out a protein powder, especially since I am vegetarian and my diet lacks in protein. The protein powder market is an intimidating one, there are so many to choose from and it is hard to know which one is best for your requirements. Since it was my first time using protein powder I didn’t want to spend a fortune on it. Protein World is a name I am familiar with as a lot of bloggers promote it on various social platforms. I decided to buy it when I happened to see it on offer in Superdrug for only £13, a bargain! This powder is perfect for people like myself who have just started taking their gym game seriously, it’s got a good level of protein per serving (23g), it’s not packed with calories and it is actually really tasty and there is a nice selection of flavours to choose from!
I like to use Crest Whitening strips every so often to top up and keep my teeth pearly white. There are quite a few lines to choose with the Crest Whitening strips but my most recent purchase of the strips have been my favourite. I have found that the Professional Effects line have made the biggest differences to my teeth than any of the others I have used in the past. They don’t make my teeth sensitive and I can see improvements after just one strip. You have to be very careful when purchasing these strips as they are not sold in the UK and there are a lot of fakes floating around that could be potentially dangerous. I would avoid the likes of eBay and when looking at websites, make sure to always check for legit reviews and check their authenticity on websites such as trust pilot. I purchased mine from “Cali White ”and I am very satisfied with their speedy delivery and their check-up email after I had received the product. You can use my promo code ‘MOLLY5’ to receive 5% off your first order!
My final favourite of January has been the fantasy novel ‘La Belle Sauvage: The Book of Dust’ by Philip Pullman. I decided I wanted to read more books in 2018 and I think that this was a really good one to start with. It is a really heart-warming, easy read that is perfect to get snuggled up with accompanied by a cup of tea. I don’t want to give anything away by going into too much detail, I also haven’t finished it myself but it coincides before and then after the Dark Materials trilogy. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the Dark Materials trilogy, I haven’t actually finished them but I can still follow the story and its terminology perfectly fine.
